an absolutely delightful movie .
paddington wins over basically everyone in the world with his kindness & sincerity & whimsy . features nicole kidman in an incredible campy villainess role & is a series of beautifully realized silly sketches that lead to paddington finding a home & family .
fun & funny & emotional & sweet 🥲
Dropped acid and watched Paddington.
(I’d watched Paddington 2 last year while I had COVID but had never seen the original).
It’s both a silly story about a bear and also a really moving refugee story. It feels good to get wrapped in the kindnesses of the characters. A world so dissimilar to our own but a reminder of the world we can aspire to create. It was nice to get lost in the story’s coziness for a little while.
- notting hill
- the many adventures of winnie the pooh
- my neighbor totoro
- kiki’s delivery service
- help! (the beatles mocumentary)(i used to watch it with my dad on sad days)
- down with love (deeeeply underrated romcom)
- mr. deeds (also lowkey underrated mid 2000s sandler)

The Straight Story (1999), Marcel the Shell with Shoes On (2021), Matilda (1996), The Holdovers (2023), True Stories (1986) The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014), and The Royal Tenenbaums (2001)
it’s the perfect length for me to watch after work , i can start a movie at 11 or even 12 & get to bed at the (mostly) reasonable hour of 1:30 at the latest . sometimes i will extend this to 100 or 110 min if i‘m feeling indulgent or ambitious .
i could watch an hour of tv but this gives me a whole story in only a little bit more time .
