Empire Of The Mind Probably closest to what youre looking for in this list of my recs. This was a purely philosophy channel to begin with and turned into film analysis a couple years ago. There aren't many videos but theyre great quality, in-depth and long essay form most of them are older classics though. Now You See It Analytic in nature sometimes uses specific films to focus on but more often focused on common themes, filmmakers, specific scenes Every Frame A Painting Gorgeous, focused more on cinematography though; specific scenes and their themes like use of space&time, scores, editing, shots, comedy, action etc.

Been itching for video essays to listen to while writing my own essay-essays and video essay scripts that I have been working on. This channel has a great collection of stuff and honestly might pop off soon if they keep up the great work. Just finished their most recent video on the Romeo and Juliet. Great channel overall. Highly recommend

i love watching the youtube channel โ€˜Mr. Sunday Moviesโ€™ and itโ€™s basically 2 australian guys reviewing movies and tv shows (& video games). i recently watched the third Matrix film and iโ€™ve watched all their videos on the Matrix films and their respective video games. i love their perspectives and i find it interesting to hear about what it was like when the movies were coming out from people older than me. iโ€™ve linked their video on the Animatrix series. :)

-Oki's Weird Stories, mostly bringing light to unknown stories, very high quality and well-researched. rec: "The Deadly Basement of a 4chan Doomer" + "How I Infiltrated a Bizarre Conspiracy Cult" -Leeja Miller, political video essays from the perspective of a female, queer lawyer. rec: "The US Is Ugly. THIS is Why." + "Why Are Americans So Obsessed With Communism??" -The Right Opinion, mostly deep dives on different pop culture topics, but his trilogy on Onision really does feel like a true crime doc. rec: His Onision series + "The Never-Ending Nightmare Of Nikocado Avocado" -Wendigoon, does a lot of horror deep dives, sometimes its about fictional media like ARG's but he also does a lot of deep dives into real life crimes. rec: "The Most Disturbing Cult of All Time: The Ant Hill Kids" + "The Story & Footage of LA's Most Infamous Heist Gone Wrong" + "The Cult, Standoff, & Conspiracy of Waco" -j aubrey, similar to The Right Opinion, but he does do more content on real-world stuff. rec: His Epstein trilogy + "The Depraved World of the Duggers | A Biblical Scandal" -DonnaIRL, pop culture deep dives with a more psychological perspective (im pretty sure she's a psychologist). rec: "The Cult of David Dobrik: How to Keep a Group Obedient" -Coffeehouse Crime, i used to really like true crime youtube, but after watching Pinely's video ("The Broken Morality Of True Crime Videos") i became disillusioned with the space. coffeehouse crime is the only channel i feel does it right and respects the victims. rec: "The Tinder Date Murdered By A Cult | The Case of Sydney Loofe"

And pink and red striped marimekko slippers. Because I'm having tea on the balcony watching the rain and because this dress is a big A-line sack made from a cotton bedspread its literally the most comfortable moo moo in the world that doesn't look like a moo moo.

Is my favourite documentary in the world. Stylishly directed in black and white by Bennett Miller (best known for Capote and Moneyball), it circles around the magnificently exuberant existence of the playwright turned apple city tour guide Timothy "Speed" Levitch as he muses on the city of NY on and off his double decker bus. I have a tendency to let my frustrations of the world to clench my muscles up and this is the film equivalent of a lump of mdma to melt my heart back open again with every rewatch. A poet can have an intense love affair with a bridge and a great poet can word it in a way that convinces you that they're not mad; or that even if they are, they are mad in the exact way life is supposed to be experienced in the first place. A must-see for anyone who holds a warm spot in their heart for the insomniac city, or at least what it once could be through the eyes of an intensely intuned romantic eccentric.
