I don’t knowits coziness level but it has New Hampshire right there in the title. I enjoyed when I read it years ago. (cw: suicide)

Entertaining stories about messed up family dynamics are my catnip. John Irving‘s characters are always on the edge of making stupid choices that I can sympathize with and that emotional suspense keeps me coming back.

Moving in a cold way, funny in a dry way. Re-read it today with the transition from young adult to just Adult weighing on me, whatever that means, if anything. Fans of Larry David might enjoy ‘He’s a nice little fellow. When I first met him, he barely spoke. I determined that he liked words but in isolation, as individuals. He didn’t like them gathered together. He seemed to feel they got dumber gathered together.” “I was with you when we moved in, Dad. His mother brought over that awful fudge.” “Can’t recall the fudge.” “To welcome us to the neighborhood. It was just awful.” “We’re talking about fudge?”’

An escapism read at it's finest during a time we need it most. Indulge in the effervescence of Shangri-La (not Rick's house). Doesn't hurt that every edition of the novel has different, but uniquely excellent cover artwork.

The occupation persists, the oppression persists, the torture persists. The occupiers are psychotic and their work is never finished. People who’ve paid attention won’t be surprised by this photo from Gaza.
