If the thought of emotional closeness and intimacy is intimidating and you're as scared of being accepted as you are of being rejected then it might be best to simply take a break from the apps. If you think you're ready then good luck and godspeed.
(Also if it makes you feel better it might be easier to meet people in the autumn/winter, with "cuffing season" and whatnot.)

Dating apps are the easiest way to meet people nowadays. I have had some of the worst experiences ever in my life by meeting up with someone on a dating app, but also my current partner and I met on tinder and we have been together for a year and a half now. What I’ve learned is be completely transparent with your intentions, learn to spot the red flags that someone is lying about their intentions, and be comfortable with something not working out even if there was some chemistry over text. If you have brought it up with your therapist multiple times, it sounds like you need to just pull the trigger, and figure out definitively if it is for you. You can get 100,000 responses saying “go for it!” but only you know what actually works for you.

I'm the existential "it'll all fall into place" type and I find it becomes fuel for my fear of rejection...my "if it was supposed to happen, it would have" philosophy can only take me so far if I'm not putting myself out there. I'm still intimidated by the apps, but am trying to be more intentional with my communication/connections IRL if I'm not gonna make the digital leap. My brothers in a happy/healthy relationship that blossomed from hinge though so ik it's possible

One of the few apps with no ephemeral "story" feature or whatever so you don't need to check it every 24 hours. Cherish this.

It's just like John Swartzwelder said: "Since writing is very hard and rewriting is comparatively easy and rather fun, I always write my scripts all the way through as fast as I can, the first day, if possible […] Then the next day, when I get up, the script’s been written. It’s lousy, but it’s a script. The hard part is done."
