i love to get drunk and rant about how pop music is the universal magnet, how storytelling through music saves lives, how the teens need music more than anything, how escapism is a powerful and necessary tool at times, how being able to see yourself in someone else’s narrative can be wildly healing, how dancing your heart out at a show can literally cure depression, how music creates community and it’s beautiful, how an arena of girls and their moms and their friends can all sing the same words together in unison and itā€˜s one of the closest things we have to real magic in this life. i love pop music. also rock. also rnb. also all of it. i love music so much

literally could not be more excited for her and brat (should’ve been aoty) but it’s always bittersweet when an artist you love blows up like that and their very intense impact on one group of ppl is stood up next to new fans/the general public’s opinion. it’s exciting but it’s sort of awkward. i dont think we can explain what music means to us.
whatever
pop 2 rlly is so f*cking fun and cool

can we normalize not knowing genres or the nitty gritty of why you like a song and accept that some people just like it based on vibes? (it’s me. i’m some people)
-ā€œFrom The Startā€ by Good Kid covers often are hit or miss, but this is an absolute banger. somehow combining the jazz of the orginal Laufey tune with indie rock is everything anyone could possibly need and more. plus the indie rock makes the heartthrob of the lyrics hit so much harder. the delivery of the lyrics is just šŸ‘Œ it’s just the perfect song to belt out and i love it so much
-ā€œSaturday Sunā€ by Vance Joy indie folk!!! highly recommend!!! this shit is amazing!! the good vibes and the hope this song brings is just it.Ā  something something being in love and being happy. this song is just great
-ā€œAbout A Girlā€ by Nirvana I really like grunge rock apparently. depressing grunge rock. and this is depressing as shit. just- it- yeah i don’t even know what to say about this song. it’s great and sad and- yeah yay! unhealthy relationships! (ahhhhhh)
-ā€œSilver Springsā€ by Fleetwood Mac i already posted aboutĀ Rumours, but this is my favorite off the album, and it’s not even actually on the original album. passing this over for ā€œI Don’t Want To Knowā€ was certainly a choice, but i wasn’t alive in 1977 so what do i care? (i love both songs) in terms of the actual song, i don’t have a marriage that’s coming to a tulmoltuous end, but the feminine rage emitted from this song is everything. if you ain’t singing your heart out in the second half, you’re doing it wrong.

this series is never going to end
-ā€œManchildā€ by Sabrina CarpenterĀ  this song is so condescending of himbos and i think it’s the funniest thing. its so catchy and i love it! the chorus is- i can’t think of any other word to describe it other than adorable… which… is not the right word, but i love sabrina carpenter and her vibe. her breathy vocals are just everything this song needs. like her sounding so cutesy while insulting her ex-lovers is so funny. and the music video is absurdist western nonsense and it’s amazing.
-ā€œDiscoā€ by Surf Curse this is what being head over heels sounds like. the compassionate love oozing from this song is everything. and theres something about the way the singer sounds and the distortion or whatever put over his voice that makes everything hit so much harder. indie rock love songs are my weakness (if anyone has anything like this, PLEASE SHARE)
-ā€œIn Heavenā€ fromĀ Eraserhead so i’m not willingly listening to this song, but it’s unfortunately been stuck in my head. it’s so damn creepy, i hate it. but i also love it. being from a dream sequence movie that relies heavily on the soundtrack and sound design, this song is perfect. David Lynch knew what he wanted for this song and he made it happen.Ā
-ā€œTake Fiveā€ by Paul Desmond / The Dave Brubeck Quartet there’s a reason this song is a jazz standard. just something about a silly time signature, a solo saxophone, a two chord syncopated vamp, and the drums chilling on the (ride?) cymbalĀ  and this song is kinda special to me as it’s one of the first songs that really got me into jazz. and my school’s jazz band almost played it but our director thought it was too difficult and we didn’t have the time to learn it. i’m still pretty salty about that :(
-ā€œgood 4 uā€ by Olivia Rodrigo bandle in 5 on this one. and honestly that’s how i remembered this song existed and found out i actually love it lol. the genre hint was pop punk and im like ā€œolivia rodrigo’s pop punk?ā€ and then i put this on and im like ā€œhell yeah she isā€Ā  i hate that i can almost relate to the lyrics too. i’m going through that canon event in a girls life of that guy she’s never dated. and i used to see him everyday in school and we talked, kinda. but now that schools done, now what? and i really like him and tried to put effort into our relationship, even just as friends. but he’s barely trying, and still has the gall to call me a dear friend and ask what im doing FOUR YEARS IN THE FUTURE. ok rant over. šŸ˜… you will find me head banging over this song and you cannot stop me.Ā

there is nothing better than a solo date to see a band you love. no shouting over the crowd to your date, freedom to dance as crazy as you want, peak people-watching. get as drunk as you want, who cares. talk to a stranger or don’t. tip the bartender and merch person, befriend the bouncer. you are the main character when you are on an adventure with yourself. who knows you better than you…? music is so euphoric and transformative, i will always cherish my solo concerts

plugging myself because obviously… if you are an overthinker, party girl, have fire sign placements and/or anxiety, enjoy liz phair, olivia rodrigo, sheryl crow, or the strokes…. perhaps give it a whirl. it has found itā€˜s way to many ā€œsummer 24ā€ playlists and that makes me smile :) there is also a very funny music video on youtube. thanks all music lovers for considering

how has no one said this one yet? chappell is winning music right now and this tiny desk certainly was part of that. between the stripped down live arrangements, matching pink band outfits, comedic personality in between songs, the wig (insane), and her VOICE….truly this performance is beyond i could watch it a million times
