It’s so hard thinking about the future of our world, so hard it makes doing anything almost impossible. at least that’s how ive felt for so long. Personally, the last year or so has been a massive revelation in the fact that we all need to be taking care of each other on a deeper level. Gone are the days of isolation and apathy. We do need to show each other that we care, because I think that with time, it’s going to continue even after we’re all gone. Caring for your community can look like so many different things. Being involved with your local businesses and organizations. Checking in on friends and family, volunteering your time to other people when you can. Get involved with your local government! I feel as though this is the type of patriotism our country has needed for such a long time, but we’ve swung too far away from it. There are still going to be issues that come up, even with an amazing community by our side, but I think it makes it easier to deal with when you know you have people who care about others around you.

Yes, a lot of people still care. We've kinda built a society that burns people out for caring. And when resources are this hard to come by it can be hard for overworked and underpaid people to show it. But there are a lot of people who still care. Sometimes it's not the people who you expect. Be kind and caring and you will get that energy back. Say hi to your neighbors. Join volunteer groups. Find clubs or classes for things you're passionate about. Go out of your way to do things for your friends. Take them to the airport. Bring them food if you make some. Support people when they do cool things, attend small shows and support small businesses. Don't do it with the intention of getting it back and make sure you take care of yourself too, but the more of that energy you put out the more you will see it reflected back to you. It's so important to keep caring even when it's hard. It's never hopeless. The smallest things can really change people days.

I also have been feeling a lot of this recently— I feel such a nihilism surrounding everything right now. My friends often feel more distant from me, or rather I more distant from them. I think people have been subconsciously forced and influenced to desensitize themselves to life completely because of all the terror and destruction in the world. And it breaks my heart. But yesterday I was riding a very crowded bus and witnessed strangers taking care of each other; offering up seats, picking up belongings others had dropped, spotting and holding out hands to older folks who needed help walking. I have been savoring every time I get to witness something like this now, it feels so real and special. And I try to love love love care care care as much as I possibly can!
