I think if you're in a position to quit your job and rest/work on something you care about, I would do it. That kind of opportunity doesn't come often, and most people will never have it. I'd say especially if you're facing chronic pain or having doctors order you to rest, you'll only regret NOT resting and prioritising your health. Capitalism continues to win when we work our entire lives away.

Also, I totally get the "feeling like a loser" thing but honestly this is just internalised capitalism again. I recommend Tricia Hersey's Rest is Resitance. She does an excellent job of expressing how racial capitalism has constructed this idea that we are only worthy as human beings when we work ourselves into death, alienation, pain, and exploitation. Her work helped me untangle some of these thoughts around productivity. Same with How to do nothing: Resisting the attention economy by Jenny Odell

we were not meant to perform labor for hours a day until we die. you’ve been given the opportunity to get out of this cycle so take advantage of it! it doesn’t make you a loser to not have a job, it makes you lucky!! you should absolutely use your time for your passion project and enjoy your life free from the grasp of capitalism!!!!

As an artist who gives 0 fucks about the flow and capital of industry, I encourage every person who is forced to work a meaningless (that’s the key word) day job to find every possible way they can to take bathroom and smoke breaks on the clock. If there ever is a time to mindlessly scroll the internet, it’s while on the clock.

This might be old news to some but if you're someone who likes to track their reading I highly recommend Storygraph. They provide you with much more interesting data about your reading habits (graphs!) are Black woman founded and run, not affiliated at all with amazon like Goodreads is, and have a more interactive rating system that gives better insight than just stars. What's even better is they have a way to import your goodreads data if you already feel invested in that app. Divest from amazon and delete ur goodreads!! :) :)

Was just waiting in a long line at the passport office and decided to use that time to make my friend and I a road trip playlist for our upcoming trip to Seattle this weekend. It was awesome because I listened to some of my favourite songs while thinking about what new songs I could add and what I thought she'd like. It passed the time so quickly and I was bopping along in line having such fun. Definitely recommend!!
