William Basinski's Disintegration Loops marked an important stepping stone in the experimental music scenes history. Recorded on tape in the 1980's the artist found that as he recorded the loops began to decay. After revisiting and digitizing its recording in 2001 days later he watched the 9/11 attacks from his apartment where he recorded footage with a camera from his roof with the decaying loops playing in the background The results were a exploration in life cycles, tragedy, grief, decay, and more

been listening to and falling asleep to this piece of drone music for the better part of 10 years. i first discovered this piece of music while watching the comedy by tim heidecker. i was even lucky enough to see an orchestration of d|p 1.1 live. a truly astonishing piece of art.

Billy’s is my favorite music in the world. His whole catalog is immortal. He just released a new piece called September 23rd. It is a loop based ambient work comprised of a piano melody cut up from the early 80s that has been treated and processed. I always say Basinski’s music is the most helpful artwork I have ever known. I must have listened to his records for tens of thousands of hours. I am playing it before my concerts.
