The Handmaiden (2016) by Park Chan-wook: psychological thriller set in 1930s Japanese occupied Korea where a young pickpocket is hired as a handmaiden to a Japanese heiress
Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter… and Spring (2003) directed by Kim Ki-duk: drama/romance/coming-of-age movie that follows the entire life of a young Buddhist monk apprentice who, after meeting girl who arrives at the monastery seeking help with her health, leaves the monastery and begins navigating how to explore sexual/romantic relationships as well as cultural shifts from the traditional Buddhist monk lifestyle to a modern, more industrialized lifestyle of present-day Korea. the film is split into five segments of his life that take place in each season, each segment being a different era of his life.
Microhabitat (2017) by Jeong Go-woon: romance/comedy/drama about a thirty-something woman named Miso, after having her rent increased, decides that out of cutting cigarettes, whiskey, or rent, she chooses to forgo rent. the movie largely centers around the events that play out following this decision
