I’m in school right now to be a tailor and I want the entire world to learn how to sew from the bottom of my heart. Getting a simple pattern and googling terms/ techniques as you go is a good way to start. I also recommend finding a nice old lady to show you tricks. You could volunteer in a nursing home to search some out, I know those girls get lonely. Follow your intuition, we’ve been sewing for centuriessssss.

Find the manual for the sewing machine online so you know what features it has, then just go one project at a time. I found it most helpful to learn by doing- slowly acquiring skills as I went along instead of reading or watching all encompassing explanations. I would learn just enough to like, take in the waistband or hem a shirt how I wanted, and after a while learned the names for those stitches or technique. keep it fun and intuitive! got too excited by this ask - i taught myself to tailor starting from childhood, sewing anything and everything by hand. such a rewarding skill to have! have fun!!

Have never learned and the initial learning of the basics is seeming scary 🤒 but I keep seeing things and thinking that as an unemployed student I rly need to be making not buying things. also fun and customisable! The seamstresses in my life have so much fun 🤩

"If I'm an advocate for anything, it's to move. As far as you can, as much as you can. Across the ocean, or simply across the river. The extent to which you can walk in someone else's shoes or at least eat their food, it's a plus for everybody. Open your mind, get up off the couch, move." –Anthony Bourdain

okay this has been cool for me because - i have somewhere to go to when i am bored with my work from home setup - i have the privilege of taste testing their new stuff - they give me free shit lmao - we can share our cool hobbies/interests - we get to talk about the craft which they're so passionate about or just have a wholesome conversation
