I don't listen to music while I read, but maybe finding instrumental music that's similar to the mood of the book could help? Ex. Listening to dark/haunting instrumental while reading a gothic or horror book

soundtrack to reading

i like to listen to specific things when reading specific things. donkey kong 64 aquatic ambience hits with in watermelon sugar. the caretaker’s an empty bliss beyond this world hits with house of leaves, etc. -Zack

Instrumental music

Instrumental is probably the wrong word, but ambient, noise, classical, electronic music, etc. music without words. I love lyrics and poetry, and listen to music with words a lot, but many times, especially in headphones, when I listen to music I can hear my own thoughts better, and hearing someone else’s in there is too distracting.
