my favorite ending for an album that i feel, is in large part, about the various modalities of longing and lament. it feels weary and wise, almost recollective like one might be at the end of a life. reminds me of a stanley kunitz poem 💙

re:stacks off bon iver’s For Emma- such a heavy album, but this song marks a final change in theme before the record wraps up: leaves listeners with a twinge of hope after so much grief. i’ve carried that hope with me for years now. if you listen closely, you can hear justin vernon set down his guitar and walk out of the studio as the album ends. a perfect tender moment also f mono 😔☝️

a bit too on the nose? it may be the second song on the album but it’s perfect for ending things on a hopeful/optimistic note before i run into the woods at the end of the movie.

It’s the last song of their album of the same name. and it’s the perfect conclusion to the album. It creates a sort of comforting feeling of dread about life and how it goes on. By the end of the song you realize there’s more instrumental than actual lyrics but it’s just what is needed to convey whatever this track is doing to me. My favorite band and honestly it’s one of their best albums.

FOOD: honey crisp apples. the perfect morning or evening walk snack. BAND: black country, new road. real late to this one, but loving their fun and inventiveness. drums and rhythm changes on good will hunting are a favorite. BOOK: ursula k. le guin’s translation of the tao te ching. very poetic: she takes a lot of creative liberty here. by no means to be read for academic purposes, but it captures an underlying spirit of the tao that feels dynamic and eidetic, that other more literal translations lack. also, anarchist. SHOW: just finished twin peaks. what an ending.
