going to the box office

I told a friend the other day I tried rolling up to the box office at MSG for Charli XCX's sold out show and my friend responded "what are you on Seinfeld?". Tea. But going to the box office is something that this digital age does not always consider. I have had much luck at any other "sold out" show in NYC by going to the box office on the day of, purchasing a ticket at face value, and strutting on into the venue. Typically the venue holds a row or so for the occasion. Unfortunately, the box office in reference at the top of this rec, did not deliver on my hopes and dreams of being Brat.

Taking a selfie in the amc bathroom every time i go to the movies

i became an AMC Stubs™️ member about two years ago. every time i go, i have a ritual of taking a selfie in the full-length bathroom mirror and adding it to a folder called “because here, they are” (a quote from the Nicole Kidman pledge of allegiance). what i love about this practice / project is that it transforms the seemingly mundane activity of going to the movies, often alone, into a tool for tracking the passage of time. and what is a movie, if not a capsule of time passed, captured in light and color.

i meet new people via concerts & dive bars

ive been single for 5 years so when i moved, going out alone wasn’t really a new concept it was just the unfamiliar environment that was intimidating. so i just had to get over my fear of the literal unknown. either way, concerts are the easiest place for me to make new connections cus i like to dance and i mean there’s already a solid topic of conversation to lead with (the artist you r there to see 🌚) dive bars r easy too, i just have a drink at the bar, talk to whoever’s there, and go wherever the wind takes me. i also just straight up asked my coworkers if anyone wanted to be friends and /or hangout. sometimes (in seattle at least) u just have to be straightforward my old roommate liked going to queer nights and that’s how she met a few of her friends my current roommate is into gaming so he goes to gaming meets & card game battles and i have another friend who loves skating so she goes to skating events i guess, meet new people thru ur hobbies 🧘🏽‍♀️ BUT ALSO don’t be afraid to ask :)
