The single finest, private, most luxurious sushi experience I've had in my life. It's my platonic ideal of what a night over sushi should be. Ginza Kyubey is probably the best and most famous sushi restaurant in Tokyo without a Michelin star, with a history dating back to 1935. Great vibes, fantastic service, tourist friendly (although you'll need a hotel concierge to book you a reservation, like most of the best places in Tokyo). I've tried to visit here with colleagues or friends every time I've been in Japan for the past decade or so. Always worth it, plus the Ginza is a fun neighborhood to bounce around in at night after you're done. S/O to lisaluvspizza for the inspo.

Tucked away in a row house a few blocks from the 930, Howard Theater, and other famous music venues lies an amazing little gem of a Japanese eatery. The menu is very seasonal But always amazing. No sushi, all small plates with a little sashimi. Sake you never heard of that dances on the tongue. Very worth the price of entry which is not bad if you have a little discipline with said sake and sashimi.

Particularly when traveling to Tokyo, where there are like a dozen different places in Shimokitazawa, Nakameguro, Shinjuku or Roppongi that feel like my platonic ideal of Japanese culture/society. Sit in your booth, put your earbuds in, float on a sea of tonkatsu broth. Ahhhh.

Hey tyler hopefully this doesn’t violate some PI.FYI golden rule But after nearly two years of writing, editing and arguing, my book about the EP is coming out in May and can be preordered here: https://hozacrecords.com/product/aifl/ The book is about the origins, history and cultural impact of the EP since these little objects first started coming out in the 50s. Over 50 of my music biz friends then helped me shape the list and review the top 200 ever released, according to us (ha). For those of you who are into this kind of geekery/snobbery, I can’t wait to hear what you think. A labor of love, as all books are! ❤️
