If you’re needing a break from the city, noise or even just your mundane life, go to the mountains. The openess of rolling country fields and mountains that touch the sky will cause this sense of awe and diminish your sense of self (in a good way). Let me explain, when you’re constantly in a routine or surrounded by people, you tend to focus inward, become selfish, think of the productive value of yourself and others. It’s dehumanising. Going back into nature and having a breather, allows you to feel tiny. You are not important and that’s good!! You don’t need this made up pressure you put yourself under and all the little things do not mean that much. The world is massive and we are but a tiny spec of dust that will disappear in time. This is not existential, this is freedom.

It can be chill and cathartic to experience that sort of solitude for a prolonged period. A reset for your brain.

Reconnecting with nature. Walking, hiking, biking (even driving sometimes) in huge landscapes, where all our collective achievements (that I’m vicariously proud of) and my individual pains melt into the sheer scale of mother-nature, reminding that she is the spring and the ocean of all life, and all of our imaginary importance comes and goes with us. She, on the other hand, always has been and always will be, and we‘re all just some of her fleeting thoughts frozen briefly in time. We are not special. We are not apart of Nature. We are but a part of Nature. Sadly, it seems were losing that part at a high rate.

Sometimes I just need a break from the hustle and bustle of life and to sit on the grass or bench in a quiet park. Listening to the leaves rustling in the breeze and the birds tweeting brings about a sense of calming throughout my body that feels so recharging for my soul.
