Whittling is my new found hobby and it is so much fun. For the uninitiated whittling is carving wood into different things. It is so satisfying, you can sit outside and whittle away the hours and at the end you get something cool out of it. You can make anything as well. You can go collect the wood and then turn that into something amazing. I made my first spoon yesterday. The kits are also super cheap. If anyone wants any advice on where to start (from an absolute beginner myself), I am happy to share Everyone should whittle, the world would be a better place!! It’s also not that hard once you get going. That spoon came from half a tree stump!

ninaisasleep a friend showed me how to do it but it’s very simple really. You just need to get a knife to start and then go find some wood. This YouTube vid is a really good place to start as well. Happy to give any tips etc if you want https://youtu.be/0OWe8AqIdCU?si=0BjtG0CRQmz15oUn

I’m whittling for the first time. Or perhaps I’m carving, it’s unclear where whittling ends and carving begins. It could be once you use a sander. Either way, I’m finding it to be a rewarding and engaging task

recently i have been taking wood carving classes at the community centre. i initially wanted to sign up for something more conventional e.g. pottery or sewing but they were all full. this ended up being a blessing in disguise because wood carving rocks. i’m by far there slowest person in the class but i really enjoy the methodical process. reflecting, i realize i had been doing my own sort of wood carving as a child who fidgeted a lot and was always tearing apart branches and popsicle sticks. any way, right now my project is a leaf sculpture that isn’t really “my taste” but i hope afterwards to make a cool large bowl for my coffee table that i can fit trinkets in

I took up stained glass as a hobby a few years ago. You know those shows where people move off the grid and they have so much pride for the way they live, even though they have to shovel thru 6ft of rocks and dirt every time they want to take a shower? The closest I have gotten to that feeling is making things with my hands. it started at knitting, then shrinky dink keychains, then cricuting tote bags and t shirts, then collaging, and most recently making stained glass. I love having Bloody battled lil finger pads and holding something sharp and real up to the window that exists in space and time because I FORGED IT! In reality, I am making silly little suncatchers for my friends that Aren't all rock and roll, but it makes me feel powerful and good. Can recommend stained glass but also any hobby where you create something fun and cute for Sport
