I mean if you know Paekākāriki, OBVIOUSLY you've seen the massive hill. but in order to climb to the top, you've gotta know where to go.
you start off with low expectations on a well manicured path, but then suddenly you're taking a sharp left, battling through overgrown gorse, testing sketchy-at-best rope swings, clambering a trampled fence, all while praying that you're going in the right direction.
you just sorta wander vaguely up without being able to see which path you're taking -- because there aren't any. the view at the top is worth the exertion, because OH MY is the sunset gorgeous from up there.
I used to go up there every few weeks, but haven't been to the top in over a year for whatever reason. this reminds me that I've got no excuse to neglect this beautiful corner of the village -- def recommended if you're in the area. many friendships have been forged and strengthened atop this hill!!
