love some jim jarmusch, some spike lee. she’s only come out with one feature so far but based on that i think i’m gonna love nida manzoor.

Its a toss up between Paterson and Only Lovers Left alive for favourite of his films. They both display romantic love in such a rare and moving way. Most of my fav movies are by directors who haven’t really made enough films yet to be solid favourites (mostly because they aren’t white men who’ve been given all the opportunities), but directors who are getting there for me are Boots Riley, Emerald Fennel, Cathy Yan.

This is very much subject to change in the near future (I made a promise to myself to watch more than 150 films this year but I'm already on track for 365), but this is just where I'm at right now. I've always loved Spike, Moonlight resonated with me as a queer person, and Bran Nue Dae is my out of left field pick that I adore from high school film class.

this finnish fool gets it. if you like early jim jarmusch or win wenders this is next up in your cue. all of his 80s films are perfect. dry comedy, sad, romantic, slow, good music, relatable themes, meandering and mystical. what’s especially cool about him is that he mainly works with the same cinematographer and shoots only on film. so the movies he made in the 2000s feel and look the same as his early works. i love all his movies but i’d highly recommend starting with: - SHADOWS IN PARADISE - ARIEL - THE MATCH FACTORY GIRL - LIGHTS IN THE DUSK - LENINGRAD COWBOYS GO AMERICA

this is genuinely the best breakfast recipe on the planet, i eat it at least once a week. heat butter in pan, throw in kimchi and fry for a small while, then crack in two eggs and fry (keep that yolk runny), then literally just add the kimchi and egg to some toast (or rice if you can be bothered to make some up) and top with sriracha and kewpie mayo, then some sesame seeds and white pepper. dangerously good.

it’s just the best film magazine out there. each issue is focused specifically on one new film that’s just been released and does a deep-dive into it. it’s also just beautifully designed and i love having them on my shelf
