If you live in London but aren’t into DIY punk/noise shows or already dwelling up Tottenham way you may not know about this magical spot. Mainly serving the area warehouse art kids, NRS is sometimes described as “what Hackney Wick was like 15 years ago” and is either explicitly or implicitly at war with most of the city’s worst nightlife trends (not to mention sclerotic pub culture). Ask for the Cidre Breton in a proper teacup

@DANNANOVA It's not a bad place to combine drinking and writing during the day, except it doesn't really open 'til noon and also "working on computer" is a bit déclassé there

I moved to london like 4 years ago now and as a native new yorker it was not at all an easy transition but as a musician it was definitely one of the best decisions ive ever made. i love nyc but lets face it, its not really as much of a music town as we would love it to be (but big props to those trying to make it one 💪) for those of you looking to visit london here are my recommendations for some good nights out: wanna shake ass? see if you can catch a surssup dj setwanna mosh? look out for an elusive mitsibushi suicide gig (no ig. but check my ig story cus ill probably share the flyer)wanna scream your heart out? scream along with experimental polish duo fc malina hot goth seeking other hot goths? attend a vaermina partyfancy some jazz? go catch a set by beautiful crooner feeolooking for some bittersweet indie pop? look no further than vijiand if your not particular about the genre but want to see good music any night of the week make sure to hit the windmill in brixton <3

I miss Griessmuehle in Berlin, especially the Cocktail d’Amore parties there, the sex pit in the basement, and jumping into the adjacent canal to swim as the sun rose. I miss the old Ashley House in London, when Adonis was there. Great raves need rambling spaces with lots of different rooms to roam and explore and fuck in. We can’t hold onto every great space, but I appreciate those in our community who fight to try. The Queer Nightlife Community Center (QNCC) is a new initiative being launched by Seva Granik to convert the Brownsville warehouse where he throws NYC’s best rave, Zero Chill, into a permanent, year-round community space aimed at supporting queer nightlife. I’m all about it.

Because of the extensive tradition of pirate radio in the UK (from Radio Caroline on down), London probably has the most insane landscape of 24/7 internet radio in the world. I've tried to rank these in terms of approximate popularity ranging from NTS (as mentioned) on down to purely DIY weekend-only amateur collectives like LWSTD. If you don't know the stations in your city, just have a quick google and do some Instagram "Following" list exploration and it should be pretty easy to find more (e.g. in Amsterdam check out Echobox, Radio Tempo Não Pára, RRFM, etc...)
- NTS (Dalston) https://www.nts.live/ - Rinse FM (Hoxton) https://rinse.fm/ - Worldwide FM (Islington) https://worldwidefm.net/ (currently mostly on ice but great archive) - Balaami (Peckham) https://www.balamii.com/ - Soho Radio https://sohoradiolondon.com/ - Reprezent Radio (Brixton) https://www.reprezentradio.org.uk/ - Netil Radio (Hackney) https://www.netilradio.com/ - Subtle Radio (Hackney) https://www.subtleradio.com/ - Voices Radio (Kings Cross) https://www.voicesradio.co.uk/ - Aaja (Deptford) https://aajamusic.com/radio/ - Do You!! Finally saw this for the first time (on 35mm thxx Prince Charles Cinema) and wow. Jonathan Glazer and co-writer Jean-Claude Carrière spending all of pre-production re-writing the script without informing the studio… DP Harris Savides pushing the boundaries of underexposed film and getting the craziest deepest browns and purples out of Kodak stock… Alexandre Desplat starting with what seems like a very polite classical score and then gradually bringing in heavy synth bass… and of course Nicole Kidman throwing herself headlong into an insane role (and apparently bullying the producers for more $$$ when they finished under budget)
