The undisputed king of deadpan comedy in cinema. Every movie is a darkly hilarious little gem and they usually clock in at less than 80 min so theyâre easy to watch. Theyâre also surprisingly sweet most of the timeâif youâre into that sort of thingâand he was just nominated for an Academy Awardâif youâre into that sort of thingâfor Fallen Leaves. It's great. If anyoneâs wondering, my personal favorite is Ariel.
this finnish fool gets it. if you like early jim jarmusch or win wenders this is next up in your cue. all of his 80s films are perfect. dry comedy, sad, romantic, slow, good music, relatable themes, meandering and mystical. whatâs especially cool about him is that he mainly works with the same cinematographer and shoots only on film. so the movies he made in the 2000s feel and look the same as his early works. i love all his movies but iâd highly recommend starting with: - SHADOWS IN PARADISE
- ARIEL
- THE MATCH FACTORY GIRL
- LIGHTS IN THE DUSK
- LENINGRAD COWBOYS GO AMERICA
long walks and crunchy leaves, hanging at coffee shops with friends, eating soup and watching movies, taking pictures, going to museums, dressing up, orange wine, winter pajamas, re-watching seinfeld, eating cheese, staying home
