agreeing with everyone here plus adding the post-cinema walk home which must be one of the best walks there is. When I leave the cinema after a great movie I always have this intense feeling made up of thoughts and emotions felt throughout the film. It’s so fragile though so I try to not look at my phone and indulge in the feeling on a 30 min walk home
i started doing this bc when i was in filmschool i could go to the movie theater for free and now i still go by myself half the time. it's really nice! and if u go to a regular themed screening like here in berlin we have mongays (queer films) or creepy crypt (horror) it's a really nice feeling of togetherness. i've never actually talked to anyone but i remember at the premiere of pearl everyone there seemed so cool and nice and i kinda wish i talked to this girl who dressed up and did her hair like pearl.
itotiani that sounds so cool. next time I’m in berlin I might go to one of those screenings. I still live in a smaller town so special screenings are a rarity, but I’ve been to cologne for a couple of festival things.
And if you like the movie, go again and bring that friend. You get to see it through their eyes, and it's like seeing it all over again for the first time!
I did this to see Mother! Best decision. after the movie ended when we were walking out an old man said to me he only came to see it bc he liked JLaw in The Hunger Games and that he hated this movie and I said I liked it :-) he must have thought I was the most twisted person and he was right
Cinema is the perfect solo activity. You can watch whatever you want whenever you want, you don't have to be annoyed by the person you're with rustling snacks too loudly, it's a few hours of almost meditative enjoyment, you can write your letterboxd review as soon as credits roll with no judgement. Perfection.
skipping class to go to the cinema alone at 11am were my happiest memories. it was always a practically empty theatre too at that time. it’s an indescribable feeling, so relaxing and you get so immersed in the film.
Second this! started doing this recently because the local cinemas ticket price is £4.50
Love going on a random Wednesday afternoon and watching a film in an empty cinema!
crystalbones been doing this regularly for a couple of years now and I really enjoy it. and since I am so much more into film than all of my friends, I can just go and see whatever I want to whenever I want to.
crystalbones I get that and I certainly felt weird about it beforehand. First time I went alone I did so cause a friend canceled on me last second and I was already there. Thats when I realized that it’s not weird or something.
i find it to be a very zen experience. sure, going with friends is fun too, but being able to completely immerse yourself in a film without thinking about the people you’re with is just life changing. for me anyway.
this rule does not apply to horror movies. too much of a scaredy cat for that.
whether films, books, vinyls or cds - physical media is great and important. nothing more satisfying than seeing your collection grow and being able to watch/listen to anything you want, no matter if it’s on a streaming service or not
Just sit down and listen to an album from start to finish, the way it was meant to be heard. I love a good playlist as much as the next guy, but the joy of listening to a full album as intended by the artist/band is amazing.
Might be the best film of the year! Not only are the performances fantastic and the cast is hot, but the score is incredibly electrifying and the cinematography is to die for! One of the most stylish and surprisingly tense films I have seen in a while!
