Getting over relationships has been a theme for me the last couple of years and I have more thoughts on this matter that I can share privately. I have been trying to pair breakups with movies the last couple times its happened and I think its really a cathartic experience. Swingers is probably my favorite out of this sub-genre because I think it does a really good job of capturing the different phases of dealing with a breakup and how to move on from it. Jon Favreau's character is dealing with a more long term breakup but I think that the emotions he's feeling are similar about anyone you have a connection with. Other breakup/lost-love favorites: Chungking Express, Sideways and Before Sunrise

Your Name: most beautiful anime film I’ve ever seen. The track Katawaredoki makes me cry every single time. 500 Days of Summer: Don’t really gotta say much. A movie that has changed my outlook on relationships. Spider-Man 2: The best Spider-Man film in my opinion. Goes from almost leaving it all to getting it all. Alfred Molina is iconic in this. In the Mood for Love: this movie broke me. Can’t/won‘t go into detail. Watch it.

Since I think we may have similar tastes: Princess Mononoke (or other Studio Ghibli, this one’s just my favorite/most profound imo) Under the Silver Lake (for the beau is afraid lovers) Chungking Express (I’m still thinking about it) Her (one of my personal favorites and every year it gets progressively more realistic) HM: We Live in Time (b2b Andrew Garfield recs okayyy also this is the fault in our stars for adults)

Like just sort of sad and heart wrenching but beautiful and maybe hopeful and sometimes a little funny and a little dumb, depending on your mood and your current situation. -Blue Valentine -Take This Waltz -Small Apartments To a lesser extent: -Drinking Buddies -Safety Not Guaranteed

Just because I see a window to get across the street doesn’t mean you don’t have to look both ways. I’ve been on the other side of that though…

I met Erin (@RIOTGRRRL) and Jake (@SLOWDAZZLE) last year after I started using PI.FYI—we organized a meetup before a Jonathan Richman show and immediately clicked over our shared taste in music and similar sensibilities. We started hanging out a lot and had some great times together. I’ve also gotten to know many of their friends, who are all really cool. Erin and Jake started dating a couple of months after the three of us became friends, but our group chat still pops off. Their friendship has meant a lot to me, especially since moving to NYC in 2023, and I really appreciate having them in my life.
