and every family trip growing was always centered around intense hiking and it was frustrating for me as a teen girl who just wanted to like be normal. I definitely appreciate it now that I’m older but I’m kind of more of a gentle nature walk person these days

el_ugh he is incredibly cool and sometimes I think he’s kind of disappointed in me for being ā€œa squareā€ LOL. And he’s always asking me why I’m not posting on ā€œthe ā€˜gramā€

Is "naturalist" a way of saying he's a nudist? it's ok, you can be honest with us

rossnewbs lol he’s actually quite prudish but he’s a big John Muir fan and into nature, hiking, camping, survivalism, land conservationism etc and could probably identify both the latin and common name of any plant you show him :-)

taterhole me and your dad will get along, I've been doing tree identification in my neighborhood too lately, massive camping/backpacking/climbing dirtbag, and so many friends in environmental fields

Omg the flashbacks. My family used to go on HF walking holidays (holidays in hotels like specifically made for walking), and I’d pretend to be ill every day and then miraculously be better by lunch so I could just go in the pool. Why are dads like this?!

Mt family was such a hardcore beach family. I've talked to my cousins about how it never occurred to us till we got older and had partners that vacations could be anything else.
Also, I hate being on a mountain. I feel so trapped walking and driving up winding roads. I love long long walks but find switchbacks annoying.

It’s free and brought my overall anxiety down. After spending all my hours in front of a screen (work or voluntary), it’s nice to be apart of something bigger, fresher, and that’s actually beautiful. It’s also nice to bring my friends along for morning hikes because it bonds us outside of usual nightlife stuff or things where we don’t have to talk to each other. More accessible activities (for people who don’t conveniently live somewhere where mountain bike tourism is a real thing) includes waking up super early and also doing yoga. I usually wake up at sunrise which gives me a bunch of free time (for half a year).

It’s sooo cute and fun and feels just like when you were a kid but better because you are old enough to drive your own jet ski 🄹 also makes your parents happy 😭

My dad teases me about how when I was a little kid, my favorite thing to do when I was on the landline phone with somebody—be it a relative or one of my best friends—was to breathlessly describe the things that were in my bedroom so that they could have a mental picture of everything I loved and chose to surround myself with, and where I sat at that moment in time. Perfectly Imperfect reminds me of that so thanks for always listening and for sharing with me too šŸ’Œ
