I spent the entirety of the pandemic living in a rented windowless room in the McKibbin Lofts. The only thing I got out of it was a reduction of my projected lifespan by 5-10 years from the asbestos and silica dust permanently seared into the walls.

I live in a beige $2000 a month 750-square-foot luxury pod not even in a major city like an insane person. I have a TV in my mirror (not kidding) and I don’t even have a bathtub all I have is this shower that makes me feel like I live in a Scandinavian white collar prison. I viewed two rental properties today in older tree-lined neighborhoods and could feel the soul regenerating in my body so I am really hoping I can ESCAPE MY POD (there are usually products in this shower this was after a cleaning session…)

I can’t say enough about a good loft. Ideally this is a large under-furnished-little-bit-industrial-a-little-bit-abandoned room for your unfettered thoughts and creativity to bounce around freely. I recently found one in downtown Los Angeles, and it’s changed everything for me.. As someone who has always worked from home, I typically turned my home into a work space. This made any sort of healthy relationship with another person impossible - either I’d give in to their demands and stop making art or functioning, or I would break up with them. I’m very happy with my love/work balance now. I get that lofts are expensive, and with gas prices what they are - all I’m saying is, if you find a loft, and you treat it well, you’ll never need to get gas again.

Last Thursday, a meteor appeared in the night sky over Los Angeles. I stood in place for 30 seconds watching it blaze brilliant red and orange before fizzling out suddenly. The experience moved me immensely and filled me with a sense of hope that I hadn’t felt in quite some time. I read later that it was a SpaceX satellite. I wish I hadn’t.

There's something about a wet and humid early morning that heals my soul. It's like a free sound bath. Especially if you are lucky and have a little bit of thunder alongside.
