if you like video games, chances are you already know about this one. if you aren't that into any games, but you like a good story and even better characters - drop everything i don't care, you have to play this. honestly it feels more like a visual novel because it's the writing and dialogue more than the gameplay that makes this thing great. it's set in a small, deteriorating american town, and you play as mae, who has just dropped out of college and returned home to live with her parents and see her old friends. shit has truly heartbreaking moments and lines that will stick with me forever. themes-wise, we're talking growing up, family and friendship, the impact of urbanisation, community, derealisation, capitalism, nostalgia, all that good stuff. plus theres a halloween bit i know you fuckers love halloween. i keep coming back to it and every time it has something new for me. MASSIVE recommendation especially if you're in your 20s. also the soundtrack is gorgeous and there are rhythm minigames (PLAY THAT BASS!!)

If youโ€™ve ever felt trapped in a small town, had to drop out and come home, or worked a shitty job while living with your parents, this game is perfect. Iโ€™ve never seen a piece of media that better captures what itโ€™s like to be part of a messy, goofy, queer, working class friend group. You play a recent drop out, Mae, who wakes up at 4 pm to wander around her hometown and hang out with her friends. Thereโ€™s a mystery too, but I wonโ€™t go into that here. The design is simple and beautiful. The game pays tribute to the history of unions, mining towns, and working class folks in the rust belt. It tackles the questions of โ€œis there a god?โ€ and โ€œif so, do they care?โ€ in such complex and earnest ways. It touches on death, mental health, abuse, money problems. The characters are genuinely flawed and struggle with very real things. Theyโ€™re also little talking animals. Did I mention this game is mostly jokes? Thereโ€™s a lot to be found if you go home and pay attention.

One of my favorite games of all time. You play as Mae, who returns to her hometown after dropping out of college, only to find that her town is changing. The game is full of humanity (ironic cuz every character is an animal) and paints a beautiful story about growing up in a small, working class town.

or junk journaling, if you'd like to not perpetuate myths about crows liking to collect trinkets. i just think it sounds cuter weirdly, as someone who's a writer, i've never really been good at or liked journaling. every planner i've ever owned has remained empty. if i try to write something any time other than when the fancy strikes me, it just feels inauthentic, like i'm trying too hard. this has been the first time journaling actually felt like it had a purpose for me, and actually felt weirdly therapeutic basically, it's just anything i can recycle, i make into a page. i like a common theme, so places i've visited, media i like, similar aesthetics, emotions i'm feeling. and then we get the qr code page & i'm reminded that this is probably the quintessential depiction of what scoring 121 on the RAADS-R looks like eh, i'm having fun๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

Itโ€™s the most seductive color" whether it's the manga or the anime, both are excellent. josei by the creator of nana. yukari's in her senior year of high school, but she feels like she's missed out on life after spending most of hers dedicated to school. she stumbles upon a group of fashion students running the atelier Paradise Kiss, or ParaKiss, who take her off her path and bring her into the world of high fashion. artsy angsty young adult hijinks ensue. coming of age existential crisis type shit. every flavor of disaster queer. absolutely beautiful art. this show has meant everything to me since i was a younger and it only feels more resonant with me as i've grown older. whole thing's up on youtube, could not rec enough
