That “I saw a musical when I was 3 and knew my fate” lore, that’s Rachel berry/black swan type lore. Rise & grind baby
No in all seriousness, brought up in London by a brazillian & Turkish who didn’t want to be here, also coming of age and feeling it HARD

I was raised quite literally from conception on Queen. I wrote an essay about growing up listening to my dad’s music and where that’s taken me musically (see link)

I am here to tell a cute story from my childhood:
When I was little and I first saw shrek, I was utterly moved by the cover of hallelujah that plays in the movie. I was so moved in fact that my tiny pea sized brain tried to make whatever sense of the lyrics that I could, and made an art piece based off of that. I was completely misinterpreting the lyrics too which is so funny to me. I had no idea who sang it but I was obsessed! What makes this story even better is that when I was in college I heard Rufus Wainwright’s original music for the first time and immediately fell in love. It was really full circle because he sang that cover in shrek. And I first heard his album poses while I was making art too. It just seems like a really cool coincidence or some kind of fate. Music finds you in very mysterious and meaningful ways. <3

I'm a 12-year-old living in Ireland, up until this point, my musical taste was mostly confined to what played on the radio and whatever my mum enjoyed. While I did find some of her musical choices appealing – think Backstreet Boys, New Kids on the Block, and Whitney Houston, I didn't really think about music beyond something to sing and perform to.
(Side note Back in those days, I was quite the performer, often putting on dance routines and passionately singing along to tracks by the Backstreet Boys and the whole Aladdin soundtrack.)
However, my musical taste underwent a significant shift during the summer of that year when I traveled to London. At that time, my cousins were all about UK Garage, Hip Hop and RnB. It was there that they introduced me to the song "Fill Me In" by Craig David, and something about it just resonated with me. Maybe it was the intrigue and allure of sharing in my cousins' musical tastes, but it left an indelible mark on my musical taste, a fondness that remains unwavering to this day.
In fact, that experience prompted me to make my very first album purchase with my own money at HMV (Oxford Street). It was Craig David's “Born to do it”. And I didn't stop there; I also picked up "Pure Garage II" – a topic I'll delve into later because it's undeniably a perfect album.
As I immersed myself in these new sounds, I returned to Ireland with a newfound fascination for London's music culture and a determination to shape my own, unique music preferences.
(Listening to the album while I write this, “Walking Away” may be my my favourite song on the album)

made a playlist a while back to send to friends when they wanted an introduction to brazillian music.
I’ve put a lot of heart into this, trying to track the start of bossa nova (1950s onwards) and include all the legends and songs ranging from the national hits, all the way down to the more niche alternative type artists.
LEMME know if u like and I can make a level two playlist, coming from a certifies brasileira <33
