It’s been three days since I’ve finished that book and it’s on my mind all the time. when I brush my teeth I think about Nettie and her time in africa , I make myself a drink and I think about Sofia and her brave struggles , it really stuck with me . It’s bleak but it’s because a woman’s life can be bleak , it’s also happy and theological and compassionate. Anyways check the trigger warnings but if you want to dive into a beautiful story and a sapphic one at that check it out ! šŸ˜œā™„ļø

It’s been a few years since my last rereading of this one but man, one of those works that just really leaves its mark on you. I got to see Alice Walker speak a few years back she just seems so incredible. I’ve been reading some of her poetry lately and really enjoying it.

oh my goddd my friends have all gotten tired of me talking about this book because i literally bring it up whenever someone asks for book recs but it’s sooo amazingly written it’s a shame it isn’t more well known!! the plot is fairly simple, a woman named cassandra comes home from college to attend her twin sister’s wedding, but where it really shines is the unique character studies and the fun/relatable prose and inner monologue! it was written by dorothy baker in the 60s, and is pretty progressive for the time (the main character is lesbian which was definitely not accepted much back then!!) anyways i would definitely read it if you’re a fan of very down to earth and relatable stories! (although trigger warning for suicidal ideations, its not graphic but still!)

everyone should read this but especially if you love lesbians and trans girls and murder that’s kinda justified and learning about the satanic panic. it’s very engaging, weird, and fun. really hit for me!

Really compelling story about two transgender characters in different stages of their transition (pre and post) and their lives, flaws, and interactions. I still find it very relevant and Maria’s character voice is like nothing I’ve read before. I absolutely loved it. The ending may read as a bit unsatisfying to some, but I think the book overall was a great read.
