Almost done watching it for the first time and I truly believe this show should be considered up there with the best of the best. So pure and wholesome in a way that could only be done pre-9/11 tbh. Not a drop of irony. Just beautiful slice of life stories with a lil magical realist twist packed with references to philosophy and film but never in a way that feels out of place. Like if no one ever died in Twin Peaks. Also executive produced by David Chase! It has it all! Tears are frequently shed from the pure beauty! Wow!

90's sitcom that's weirdly riddled with magical realism and existential philosophy and the theme song explodes out of your television at a million decibels

hear me out, y'all. this has been my comfort show for like a hundred years. it never gets old. the epitome of #wholesome. do you love: -tiny coastal towns -bumbling nephews -old people having crushes on each other -grumpy small-town doctors -cops being shown up by an old lady -that same old lady confronting murderers and saying things to them like, "now stop this fiddle faddle!" if you answered "yes" to any of the above, this show is for you! maybe it's just because i spent most of my childhood around no-nonsense, bookish, old people in new england, but this show is A VIBE so stop sleeping on it.

Saw this on TV at 4am and it became my favourite show. Even without context, I knew AB Fab had something special. Gonna watch more soon, reccomending just based on the 10 minutes of 90s sitcom bliss. Tldr; 90s sitcom but existential crisis drug use

I know you said you're already listening to stuff from South America so this might be old news, but if it's from Brazil in the 70's it's tbh worth listening to!! Caetano Veloso, Gal Costa, Jorge Ben, the list is super super long and it's all GREAT! A record store by me had a big sale recently and I bought an OG copy of this only knowing and loving a couple of his other albums (Clube Da Esquina is an all timer) but man this thing blew my dang mind. Can't recommend it enough, big time Beatles/Beach Boys/Floyd worship and it's just so so incredible. Also Turkish psych rips!! And Krautrock obviously!! And French stuff from the late 60s/70s!! Africa has soooo much amazing stuff too!!!

Album closers can really go one of two ways. You've got your big and fast (I'm thinking specifically of The Moon & Antarctica and Daydream Nation) or your slow and sad, like this. The Mats also operate in those two modes. After the debauchery of the rest of the album a moment of true heartbreak. "Everybody wants to be someone here" mama mia, Paul! It just don't get better. (I was also thinking of picking I Am the Resurrection by the Stone Roses but someone else did it, or Murder Most Foul by Bob but I was like ugh I don't wanna get into that song rn).
