I Lost My Body (2019) directed by Jérémy Clapin. A quote from the director about this film that I really love is " what the hand touches is felt through the sound". There is something about the way that this film approaches fantasy and surrealism that makes it one of one. Wall-E (2008) directed by Andrew Stanton. Old but classic, and still relevant with its themes around environmentalism and community. The Holiday (2006) directed by Nancy Meyers. I watch this even when its not Christmas, and there is just something so satisfying about it. Has one of my favourite soundtracks of all time. Everything Everywhere All At Once (2022) directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert. This movie kind of changed my life, when I make art I feel like in some of it you can see that this film has influenced me, and maybe it will do the same for you. Neria (1991) directed by Godwin Mawuru. Its one of my country's (Zimbabwe) most well known films. Its story follows a woman who falls victim to the greed of her brother in law that wrongs her and her children. It has strong socioeconomic commentary and is hotly debated today. Its also a film that is came out long before I was born so I cannot emphasize its impact enough.

from gut wrenching to a light tug: mustang (2015)- made me cry twice in one watch. (disclaimer: a lot of turkish people have mixed feelings abt how this movie represents turkish culture so watch with a grain of salt but also remember misogyny does in fact exist everywhere) la chimera (2023)- there is a looming melancholy throughout the whole film but the last 30 minutes really did a number on me thelma & louise (1991)- gut wrenching in a beautiful female friendship kinda way lars and the real girl (2007)- the premise looks silly on paper and tbh it is but it still made me cry in the end nonetheless (maybe i’m just a dweeb) haru (1996)- early internet bonds. also more on the lighthearted side of things but tugs at the heart.

I find myself lingering, in front of the sun drenched window feeling my body glow gold in the languid warmth, under the sweet shade of a magnolia flower - encumbered by its beauty - in the shower for just a bit too long, pittering pattering weaving in and out thoughts that circle and circle endlessly until they scatter away like the little drops jumping off of my arms in a free fall. I don't leave until the water has its fill of me. There's a clock inside, or not a clock, a phrase or phase that sets the motion of each act. I try to hold every moment as long as possible or it slips away. why is life so fleeting? The more I do the less there is. Less flyaway cast shadows that peer off of my body, the obstruction basking in a heated glow. Less time for my thoughts to finish their race and half jog back exhausted but satisfied. Satisfied. Am i satisfied?
