when was stuck in suburban Illinois during covid (I had moved to the area for a job and knew very few people) I looked for local trails and state parks. I am not a huge nature person but it helped for me to feel more connected to the area and also get outside.

Turns out nature is cool. Especially with a big dog who loves to swim and smell dirt. Every summer I find great little hidden swimming holes and hikes and stuff not on google. It’s really well designed too. Go find a hole and take a hike.

If I got nothing going on and it's nice out in the summer or early/mid fall, there's a pretty good chance I'm going on a hike. It feels good to get tf away from a lot of the noise and bs, and to instead touch grass, take in nature, and be present with your surroundings as well as yourself. I love solo hikes but I also enjoy going with a close friend or two for some company. And ofc I enjoy the exercise and challenge/accomplishment! It's pretty sick when you're doing a loop trail and you look back mid-hike to be like "damn I did all that!" The endorphins are flowing, I feel good, and nothing hits like a nice meal and a beer after a hike. I'm also biased having lived close to the White Mountains my whole life lol

A singer-songwriter from the 70s whose music is so wonderfully weird. She weaved elements of folk, jazz, and gospel. My fave songs from her are My Man on Love and Loping Along Thru The Cosmos.

Gotta find a good stick - looking for a classic stick shape, sturdy enough to poke trees with. A good stick enhances any walk.
