Weird as hell at first but beautiful beautiful skin when you push through the purging stage. God grant me the serenity… 🙈

I was able to avoid the purge, I would start with using it once a week— use on totally dry skin, and use a gentle moisturizer after. After 2 weeks, use it every three days or so, and increase. I’ve been using tretinoin for 6 months, and I still use it two days on, one or two off, and on the nights that I don’t use tretinoin I use a night mask— I use Youth to the People’s Vitamin C Dream Mask.

jessybaby you may just get a little more acne and drier skin before it gets better accustomed. My purge was pretty mild because I took it super slow (applied every three days for half a year before stepping up to every other day). Even now I don’t use it every day after a few years and have great results. Use a good night cream (love vanicream) beneath and on top of the tret application. And sunscreen every day, of course!

jessybaby hi! So my doctor just prescribed me tret without telling me much about it. All he said was it will help with my acne and has anti aging benefits. I was sold! He told me to put a pea sized cream on my face at night before bed. Nothing else. I did a lot of research and watched YouTube videos and there’s ways to avoid the purge, but I found out too late. Basically what the other people are saying is a great way to avoid that happening. 1 every 2 or 3 days is good to start then slowly go up. I was too eager and continued to do it every night and pushed through the pealing and breakouts. (I’m crazy and probably should only be doing it every other day) but my skin got really dry and flaky. I recommend vanicream on top of the tret and then what also helped me was “slugging” with aquaphor. Good luck on your journey!!!

This one's for the girlies (and anyone else who's into skincare) - as an elder, I wish I had committed to using retin-a (tretinoin) sooner. some things I like about tret are: 1 - not having to pay attention to the million new products out there, I have become immune to marketing (I still get to try new moisturizers, HAs, and Vit C serums) 2 - it makes you remember to wear your sunscreen daily, I'd be terrible about that otherwise 3 - no more fine lines (if you don't have any, using will delay you getting them) 4 - you can now order it online from most places without having to spend money on a derm 5 - a tube will last longer than most products from sephora and costs as much/less - more bang for your buck 6 - supposed to be good for acne, I cannot report on that, but others swear by it i've generally had good skin and get the "you're how old? noooo" but I wish I had committed in my early 30s to build the habit and do more preventative maintenance. yes the purge/peeling sucks, but once you get on the other side supple babyface glass skin awaits you.

I’m purging after a chemical peel and the most hideous pustule has sprouted forth from my face. Whenever I get a zit here and there I feel so intensely grateful because my skin was terrible as a kid and young adult and I never thought it would be possible to have clear skin! 💌 it really puts things into perspective for me and reminds me of how far I’ve come
