(oh my) Getting any of these is a lot rarer now compared to when I was a child, when it seemed like I used to have a continuously rotating collection of little injuries whether it be from playing outside, running around with my friends, or roughhousing with my older (and much stronger) brother. Now, getting these minor wounds makes me nostalgic for that time when I was growing up, while simultaneously serving as a reminder for how great a privilege it is to be able to use my body

gus I was so afraid of getting hurt as a kid that I was really careful in everything I did and when I get a papercut I still feel like I’m going to die. But I feel like I’m getting better about it. right now all I have is a big chunk I took off of my skin scraping it against a rough flat finish wall when a giant German shepherd named MAVERICK lunged at me and my dog in the hallway 🤧 it’s healing…

the adult version of getting various ouchies slash boo-boos associated with childhood minus all of the extreme physical activity and unlimited energy
Examples of my own recently
- weird bruise on my thigh that I can’t Explain - knot from shower curtain rod falling on my head - tiny burn on my foot from getting hit by a speck of hot oil

to think that when i was a kid i was falling over, skinning my knees, getting scratches, and bruises EVERY DAY while running around... falling down was so normal i just got straight back up and didn't even think about it. my 26 year old decrepit ass fell down yesterday and i was in shock for hours after...

when i was a little kid playing chase, i tripped and fell on my knee on a manhole cover. it's the only thing that makes me think that i had a somewhat active childhood because most of my memories consist of me drawing or writing in safe and very still places. i tripped on that manhole a lot, actually, so what i really have is two scars, and both on the same knee! these are my only scars, i really should've avoided that little space of the sidewalk more.

These are those unplanned, worn-in trails that come into existence from consistent use over time. I like how they represent a record of the way humans and animals interact with their environment, with some being wide and well travelled while others are overgrown and don’t see that much use; each one has a story! I think they’re a cool example of the ways in which we unintentionally shape nature while it shapes us right back. So take that desire path and push back against infrastructure imposed upon you (if you want).
I also just think Desire Path is a beautiful combination of words.
