Recently my cat went blind and someone suggested keeping a radio playing so she could orient herself around the apartment.
Got this little cute cheap one. Only plays AM/FM and that’s it. No Bluetooth or WiFi. I love it.
No more decision fatigue choosing what to play or wasting my data/battery.
We mainly listen to our public radio station. My cat is very well informed about current events now. 🩷🐱

I’d forgotten that radio existed. After getting a bit bored of my playlists, it’s so refreshing to listing to something chosen for me instead of me actively searching for it. Would 100% recommend the BBC Sounds app as not only does it have live radio but also loads of audiobooks and podcasts.

Last summer while traveling I got a pocket radio so that instead of listening to my same Spotify playlists I could tap in to the pulse of wherever I was visiting. It was such an amazing experience of feeling connected to place and feeling very aware of the people around me. like I am part of this! We are all part of this!!
I could rant forever about why I’m passionate about local radio…but we all know music is an incredible mechanism to connect/communicate with people- and where hits stations loose identity, algorithm driven streaming becomes such an island. Local radio fills an important niche of here. now. us. we. are experiencing this together

Gonna try to bake a cake every (other) weekend this spring/summer. Working my way thru Natasha Pickowicz‘s cookbook ‘More Than Cake’ and it’s been a dream.
