I’m thinking tailors, watch repair, framers. I’ve been rediscovering these in my area from an older friend passing down knowledge. They are delightful pockets of community and we gotta support them so they don’t disappear.

since moving back home, i’ve been investing in finding and supporting small businesses in the city to take care of me and my things. here’s a list of “guys” i love and would recommend:
- a jeweler (repair, clean, and sizing)
- a watch guy (repair, restore, battery replacement)
- a tailor (hemming my pants)
- a camera repair guy (one of the last in the city!)
- a dry cleaner (self explanatory)
- a leather guy (shoes and bags)
- a knife sharpener
nothing brings me more joy than picking something up that has lovingly been given more life. seek these folks out, keep them in business. an added bonus is that i’ve “unlocked” a bunch of buildings downtown that i wouldn’t ordinarily set foot in.

We have one dying strip mall in this town and my friends and I just go there to wonder the few open stores left. We don't by anything we just peruse the places, make small talk with the shop keepers, sit and chat about the closed down shops on the benches.
I also frequent the antique stores, and just look at the history thats brought in. Sometimes the store keeper drops by while you look and offer facts on some of the items.
They get me out of the house and keep my mind off work and they're sometimes more accommodating than a coffee shop.

I love picking out textiles for upcoming projects 🙏 highly recommend going to ur local fabric store or vintage bazaar and dicking around looking through all the different lace and trims.

Started a new habit where I wake up and immediately read a few pages of my book instead of getting lost in my phone for those first minutes of the morning.
Makes me feel more balanced and accomplished as I start my day.

It can be scary to bring together friends from different groups or parts of your life, but once in awhile I go for it anyways and it’s always so rewarding. They usually get along great and sometimes even become great friends. If they don’t get along, then it’s only an hour or two of awkward and you can gossip about it later.

I’ve been spending more time on self-care and recently discovered the luxury of taking a hot bath.
It’s fantastic. I love turning my little bathroom into a spa. Lighting up some candles, and really committing to relaxation.
