I couldn’t possibly decide my fav pic I’ve ever taken, but recently I rediscovered my old flicker. it contains a lot of photos from when I was a volunteer gig photographer for various online publications as a teenager. I stopped doing this because one mag I was working for, upon receiving these images of Bo Ningen and Band of Skulls, told me that my photos weren't good because “the focal point needs to be the band and not the microphones or stage equipment”. My quitting wasn’t out of a belief that i was bad, but that if doing that job meant not seeing the beauty in the silhouette of a microphone, or a mess of tangled cables, then I didn’t want to do it. I love these photos on Flickr I took as a teen, I’m so proud of her constant and unyielding creativity.

i have a hard time picking one particular favorite photographer, but i admire this guy’s work so much, especially as a music photographer myself.
maybe part of it is because we seem to use similar techniques, but i know a huge detail of his work that i love is how he captures the crowd. maybe it’s just because concert crowds now aren’t usually as rowdy as they were in the 90s, but looking at his photos, i feel like i’m actually placed in the chaos and fanaticism at that show. of course, he’s a huge figure in documenting the grunge scene, and as someone who was raised on that culture, i seriously admire that too. it’s just awesome to me seeing photos that i know were shot on film look as insane as his; it is something i aspire to do.

I used to be envious of people who had “MySpace friends” or “tumblr friends”. Now I have PI.FYI friends. Thank you capyboppy for your lovely letter and this illustration of a capybara and a mouse with fruit on our heads, it made me weirdly emotional ❤️
