Hello! I’m not on Vyvanse, I’m on Concerta XL (or xaggitin when my pharmacy can’t get it) which is the other adhd stimulant drug. I can’t speak for other meds, but my general stimulant experience is that the changes generally happen instantly. Unlike other medication, adhd meds arent accumulative so they work immediately. I felt immediately better like the first day i took them, and then gradually increased my dosage through titration. That being said it might take a while for you to realise the changes - I found keeping a journal made me realise the extent of the changes. Also, without wanting to be a narc, I’d be really careful with self-medication on stimulants and increasing dosages without titration monitoring. My housemate was going to try some of mine, as she’s also sure she has adhd, but turns out she has a heart condition and it could have literally killed her. Make sure that you’re taking your blood pressure and heart rate frequently at least and stop if you’re losing lots of weight. Adhd meds were life changing for me, but for some of my friends it made their anxiety and ocd symptoms worse, so keep checking in with yourself.

Omg I’m sorry to hear about your friend‘s experience): But I’m glad that was sorted before things got really bad 🫂. Thank you so much for your response! I recently got my dosage increased (was kidding about stealing it dw) and am feeling somewhat of a difference for sure, but your response just reminded me that I should really get off my ass and do my bloodwork/heart stuff. I tried concerta before vyvanse, but even on only 18mg of it I was getting super rough side effects, so I’m really hoping that vyvanse will be the one! I’m happy to hear that it’s sat right with you (: Thank you so much again, Nancy!

taking adhd medication has improved my life an unexplainable amount. before that the only motivator I had to be productive was pressure, and deadlines. this is one of the things that led to the probably inevitable breakdown of my body and energy systems that left me unable to do basically anything. since that I have learnt that, without my medication, the only way to really be productive is to rest A LOT, and it is only after allowing yourself to do nothing for a really long time that I actually did things because i wanted to. (For example, during lockdown and after an illness induced withdrawal from the world, I had two stories published, started and maintained a poetry business, and wrote my record. humans (and especially I think non-neurotypical people) are made to rest work rest work not just work work work, and in huge peaks and troughs that span the seasons, rather than a work week. But the world (outside of forced rest through disability and global pandemics) doesn’t allow for this, so take the adhd meds if you need ok?
