VAMPIRE WEEKEND, "Mary boone"
Ezra loves a song aimed at / about a specific and even "named" person, even if that person is a composite vs. a real human. The wistful vibes on this new album are redolent of "Hannah Hunt," another sorta-person in his song sack (I used to work with someone named Hannah Hunt and she loved the fact that I knew this song existed). Growing up is hard, yo. I also very much dig the 90s style sampled drum loop on this here track. Trip-hop redux, ha. The tour can't get to my town fast enough!

I initially assumed the backing vocal snippets were choir samples and then at the end of the song they start actually singing the chorus, euphoric

I’ve been so torn about attending this tour. I went to a FOTB-era show and felt like it wasn’t as special without Rostam in the group, like seeing a half-cover band. But these singles have been really, really good.

This alt video they produced is a nice collage of vintage clips. Feels nostalgic and like a time capsule from another time in NYC, where beauty, ambition, annoyances, peace, dancing and absurdities existed just like they do today.

The man responsible for dozens of Teenage Symphonies to God "Sad songs about happy things" (the first time, as a kid, I can recall the sweet/sour combo of melodies that could make you cry attached to songs about endless, bottomless love) I've long since lost track of how many weddings and funerals I've attended that have featured this song; suffice it to say, "a lot."
