I’m about halfway through it, but so far it’s been really informative and interesting. It’s all about the birth and evolution of the indie music scene in the US, with an emphasis on punk, post punk, noise, emo, and what we would now broadly call “indie rock.” Each chapter is dedicated to a different band, highlighting influential acts like Black Flag, The Minutemen, Minor Threat, Fugazi, and my current hyperfixation: Sonic Youth. Check it out and buckle in for a pretty long and wild ride through the history of indie rock.

If you like punk music at all this is a must watch!! Here's the blurb: Before Bad Brains, the Sex Pistols or even the Ramones, there was a band called Death. Punk before punk existed, three teenage brothers in the early '70s formed a band in their spare bedroom, began playing a few local gigs and even pressed a single in the hoped of getting signed. But this was the era of Motown and emerging disco. It’s a nice little dopamine hit and helps you connect to old familiar feelings of comfort. I started doing this after a bout of pandemic depression and it still helps me get out of a funk every once in a while.
