find your nearest local bookstore and check the events calendar - there are constantly book launches where the author will show up and read and sign books! events at some of the smaller shops will sometimes have food and drinks too! books are magic / the strand / astoria bookshop / etc.

For new books: McNally Jackson (kinda an obvious choice, always a really good selection, Soho & Williamsburg locations) Greenlight Bookstore (my local new books bookstore, where I go most often, Fort Greene BK) For used books: Housing Works Bookstore (some great finds here, housing works is a nonprofit that fights AIDS and homelessness, they mostly have thrift stores but also this 1 used book shop!) The Strand (another obvious one but I go here so often too tbh) Unnameable Books (many people have said this already but want to +1 it! my local shop!)

The atmosphere in a local bookstore is so much better than a Barnes & Nobel. The one in my area has new books, gently used ones, a cafe, handmade items, and even a punch card for your purchases. My favorite part, if they don't have the book you're looking for, they'll order it for you for no added charge. The whole point is your local bookstore possibly has everything a Barnes & Nobel does. Go check it out and support a small buisness!

i make a lot of new friends just by being genuinely interested in what other people are hype about! if youโ€™re out for drinks, learning someoneโ€™s go-to drink can open up a whole conversation / revelation about them to connect to. you can also plan activities that make those discussions more likely: go to a museum and plan to go to the exhibits that each person most wants to see, visit a farmers market or flea market to shop, etc. most people are happy to meet new people and want to have a good time, so good luck and have fun!
