If you’re driving across the state you’ll be brainwashed into Wall Drug by the time you get there (the only billboards you see for hours lol) Badlands is such a cool part of the world, have a blast and pull over / walk around a lot. +1 for the black hills and all the recs cam gave. I lived in Rapid City as a kid and have fond memories tromping around there.

Beautiful area of the country, that’s where my family is originally from. Recs near badlands: - wall drug (obviously)  - Apparent the minuteman museum at a decommissioned nuclear silo near the east edge of the badlands is worth a visit!  Hopefully you get the chance to visit the black hills ~1.5hrs west of the badlands. Recs assuming you do: - black hills burger and bun in Custer SD - Skogen kitchen in Custer SD for best upscale type dining I’ve had in the state - Drive through the wildlife loop in Custer state park (in my experience best time to see bison is near sunset)  Hikes: - black elk peak (highest point east of the Rockies), not too challenging - Little devils tower  - Cathedral spires Hmu if you have any questions abt the area, I’ve spent a lot of time visiting and love talkin SD

Last post about this, I promise! I just would've never visited South Dakota had my friends not invited me along on this random lil trip, so I want to share what I've learned with you.
You can fly into Rapid City and visit the otherworldly national park Badlands, the Black Hills, colossal monuments like Mount Rushmore + the Crazy Horse Memorial, huge mountains + thousands of bison in Custer State Park, tiny casinos in the old cowboy town of Deadwood, and you can even cross over into Wyoming to see Devil's Tower.
None of these places are more than an hour-ish drive from each other! And you'll see a lot of variety in terrain along the way.
We visited during the April shoulder season and basically had it all to ourselves. The days before and after our trip were a nice 65-70 degrees & sunny, but as soon as we arrived temps dipped into the low 40s...oh well, it's better than the summer when it all gets crazy hot & crowded. Hotels are cheap & pretty nice. Go somewhere else if you're a food motivated traveler, you'll be mostly eating burgers cooked by the bartender.
Anyways, highly recommend visiting this special place. I'll be sharing some film shots from the trip on this IG account.

If you’re already visiting Badlands & Devil’s Tower — seeing stone-faced George, Tom, Abe & Teddy is a must. That was my I-90 trifecta. Are the endless Wall Drug billboards still a thing?

tomorrow PI.FYI launches to the public
this project is the result of thousands of hours spent coding everything from scratch after I got laid off six months ago
no thiel-bucks or weirdo outsider money, just a pure desire to make something fun and true to Perfectly Imperfect’s day one goal of helping people find new things from real human beings, not algorithms or AI
a pure labor of love that I’ve been quietly plotting for two years and it’s completely self-funded from my (rapidly) dwindling savings account
so thank you for coming along for this weird ride 🫶 let's see where it goes
