Before there was the Wii, there was the ps2 Eyetoy. hours and hours of washing windows. My first ever gaming memories are sitting on my dad’s knee while he played final fantasy 8 on the desktop computer. Then, the first christmas after my mum died, he bought us a ps2 and I watched him and my sister play FF9 and later FFX which was the first “proper game” I ever played. He also got us dance mats, and singstar, and later guitar hero. My childhood gaming was mostly musical. I sold my ps2 (it still worked) 2 years ago and I regret it sooooo much!

doublelibra it isn’t, the characters just looked very similar, I’m not sure whether that was purposeful

mouse As a guy growing up in a still very patriarchal time, it was a great excuse to belt out Heart of Glass in falsetto and be like "Whatever man, I'm just trying to beat this high score."

I had a nostalgia flashback a few days ago, and it felt like I was still there at my aunt and uncle's house in Middleton, Massachusetts playing this for the first time. I remembered the view out the window, sitting on the hardwood floor, and the menu music playing out of the huge rear-projection TV set (I'll be able to press play on that song in my brain at any given moment for the rest of my life.) I had never really had a flashback like this before, but I got really emotional. This week has personally been one of the hardest for me in a long time, and in that moment, I wanted to be back there so badly when everything was so much easier.

Jumpstart Animal Adventures that I’d play ALL the time before and after Primary School. This echolocation song was burned into my brain and I still catch myself singing the words “I find my prey I find my way, echo-loca-tion yeahhh” : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vvr4KSDA9Yo (Batney Ears tho, iconic) also I had an early game save just to leave Jak & Daxter running on Sentinel Beach even when I wasn't actively playing it, purely so I could listen to its theme whenever I wanted. My parents would get annoyed at me for leaving the TV on haha, but hearing it always made me feel so calm (: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tlHgdpGel18&list=PLOhUeZmJsfpPN0ORri9QWCRwGTD9Wzh_Q&index=1

- purble place was a straight gateway drg into PC gaming (and the games that came with the ‘90’s-‘00’s paddlepop stick ice creams (rainbow flavour was goated)) - my littlest petshop made me feel like the prettiest girl at the party every time (tekken on the PSP also gets an honourable mention - the PSP walked so the nintendo switch could run)

I used to be envious of people who had “MySpace friends” or “tumblr friends”. Now I have PI.FYI friends. Thank you capyboppy for your lovely letter and this illustration of a capybara and a mouse with fruit on our heads, it made me weirdly emotional ❤️
