Strawberry shortcake

All I wanted for my birthday this year was a strawberry shortcake. My friend planned to bake but ran out of time, so picked up instead (special shoutout Mia’s Brooklyn Bakery btw, was delicious). Sure I know it’s maaaybe a lil basic for a cake rec, BUT… yummmmm. I ate it for breakfast the next day and the one after that too.

Bad italian breakfast cake

I’ve grown up my whole life eating things like Pandoro and pannetone. I’d never actually buy one of these other styles, but whenever my dad randomly gifts me one I can’t help but appreciate the packing and enjoying the process of dusting the icing sugar or cocoa powder on top and having a slice. It never looks like the photo on the box and I can only really handle one slice, but feel like unlocking a part of my childhood and culture.
