I am so overly proud of finding a way to park my bike outside a busy show by using the handle on a dumpster. A tiny win that felt very good

I swear to only ever use a U-lock. That said, I only lock up my bike two ways and each way isn't the most secure, but it does a good enough job for going out to bars, concerts, and restaurants where I can trust that at least one of my wheels and frame are still secure by the time I come out. Method 1) I do the above image of the attached picture where the lock runs through the wheel and down tube of the bike frame to lock around a pole or bike rack. Method 2) I put my lock around the pole through my rear wheel behind the seat tube of my bike. More info on this on the link! I don't carry a cable around but both of my bike wheels are also bolted and you need a wrench to take them off as opposed to a quick-release mechanism. You can get "anti-theft skewers" that require a special little tool to take off your wheels too!

Essay from Adam Phillips has me ready to quit stuff: “There are at least three salient meanings of giving up that recur in different forms, all of them at the heart of Kafka’s preoccupations: defeatedness and sacrifice, or failure and compromise, or weakness and realism. The ambiguity of the phrase ‘giving up’ in English is instructive: to give up is always to give something up; something or someone is sacrificed. And sacrifice, whatever else it is, is a sadistic pleasure. To put it another way, perhaps we should not underestimate the pleasures of giving up, however forbidden or shameful they may seem to be. No one writes in praise of giving up, any more than people write in celebration of shame. The question I want to broach is not why do we give up, but why don’t we? Why are we less interested in having given up than avoiding giving up?”
