small perfume house with oil based fragrances - the sample set is affordable and so diverse! I ended up getting Rital Date and Sea, Sud, & Sun (fig perfume🚨) as full sizes

le labo, ds & durga, and plenty of the other indie perfumers sell samples of their perfumes for like $3 a sample! luckyscent.com also has decants of like any scent you could want. buy a sample pack and try different scents out till you find one or two you really like. then think about what aspect of the scent you like, and buy other perfumes samples with similar notes. once you find one you really love, buy a bottle!
you may find that some scents work best during the night but feel overwhelming for work, or maybe they smell great in the summer but are a little too floral and fresh for winter… half the fun of perfumes :)

and become obsessed with But Not Today by Unum. it smells like metal, smoke and blood kind of? but when it dries it's woody and sweet and that bit of metal never leaves. seems like the kind of thing that could easily be awful but they nailed it.
my daily wear lately has been Coveted Duchess Rose by penhaligon's though. lovely floral that's detailed and classic but not too rich.

I love the desert and the mountains enough to endure chapped skin, I love laughing hysterically in a hot spring and asking a woman who her doppleganger is and feeling relieved when she says Nicole Kidman because of course that’s who it was and I couldn’t put my finger on it, I love when my friends love the same places I do and want to come back, I love eating cucumbers for hydration, I love when my friends aren’t sure about brilliant comedy (NATE on Netflix) but then come around the next day and start quoting it, I love making up little stories about fake characters that an AI portrait app turned me into (all suspiciously big breasted), I love philosophizing in the hot tub, I love a good deal at the turn of spring, I love massage beds that are also harps underneath, I love thrift stores in small towns where you can actually get a gigantic bag of incredible clothing including jackets for $100 or less (NYC could never), I love martinis hidden in trees, I love lore of a place that’s handed down from teacher to teacher, and I have come to terms that I love extremely geriatric hobbies
