I was really good about this from 2013-2017 and it’s magical to re-read my old entries! Making it my springtime resolution to start keeping a regular diary again so 2034 me can look back and go, ahhhhhhhh

I keep all my journals in a big plastic box under my bed. The Artist’s Way instructs you to read your journals at the end of the course, and it was the first time I’d really done that and now I love occasionally going back a few months or so! You can see patterns, find old ideas or good bits of writing to use somewhere else. At the end of 2023 I read through my entire years worth of journals and did “A Year in Diary Excerpts” on my substack, it was amazing to see the progression throughout the year, and it may as well be an advert for ADHD medication the way it shows how much better it made me!

and not skipping!!! even super drunk or super tired I have to write my diary and it’s funny to read back because my handwriting is scrawled and all over the page. i have done it consistently for over a year now. it reminds me that the days that memories blur into one mass were actually distinct and lived second by second

i used to journal very frequently until mid-2022 when shit started hitting the fan and i got too tired to sit down and write. also lived in 3 different cities that year and forgot to bring my journal with me. now that i am in a phase where i'm turning inwards again, im trying to hold myself to journaling. last night i looked through everything i wrote during junior year of college right before i stopped. so interesting to track my own progression … also i was so much more eloquent and smart 2 years ago… unsure what this means for me. maybe i can return to that

My friend Mel just brought me a handmade pearl basket to hold my hard boiled egg, I cannot express the joy I am feeling right now.

you should know/say hi to the people on your commute not just to foster community and be a kind warm welcoming New Yorker (all the real ones are) but also because it will make you a happier person! my local garage boys tell me I’m a princess every day, the weed smoking guy on the stoop with the cool motorcycle tells me when my outfits are slaying, and the deli guy and I vent to one another about our love lives on the reg! we <3 human connection

Reset days are the key to avoiding burnout as a creative. Don’t think, don’t answer your phone, eat whatever you feel like eating, take a shower in the morning and a bath at 2pm, exist in a robe all day. your creative juices will recharge and you’ll thank yourself later.
