Found it at a used bookstore for cheap. It’s hard to follow but the prose is beautiful so far. Its nice to take my time with it. Lovely cover too

the endings of great novels stay with you. a momentous rush that last dot, words and eyes speeding towards it almost with reluctance, until yes that world is done but something ripples out, a faint radiance or shadow, like the dark spot that lingers in your eye long after staring at the sun. this i felt reading:
—portrait of a lady by henry james —swann’s way by proust —the red and the black by stendhal —ulysses by joyce —the sun also rises by hemingway

this is my favorite book. it's challenging to parse (people describe it as stream of consciousness, which is only kind of true, but between the characters' accents and faulkner being a wordy fella sometimes it's really hard to tell what's going on) but there are passages from it that i think about multiple times a day. the way some of the characters experience alienation from their bodies and/or reality is so tangible. it is kind of a black comedy about a family carrying their mother's dead body to her chosen resting place, hijinks ensue.

being sincere is in, thinking you’re always the most interesting person in the room is OUT.
take the opportunity to learn from this random human you have crossed paths with at the function. make a big impact with a little, casual convo. what are they into? how did they get into their line of work? what did they eat that day? what is their biggest fear? (lol) small talk is only shallow if you let it be.
tell someone working in a super busy place that they’re doing great and you hope they get a breather soon. compliment an outfit you like when you see it. tell someone when you notice their beautiful smile. quick interactions =/= insignificant

very satisfying to prolong the life of things in a world where not very many things are made to last. just applied renovating cream to my blundstones. cleaning my car, sewing up holes or tears in clothing, trimming the wicks of candles, and using slip-on covers for old books fall into this category too
