i have five names because my mom is an english teacher and she had to cram in every name and every meaning she loved. but it's funny because i still have just one middle name. i legally have two first names and not in a normal way like "anne marie" or "mary jane" or "mary anne" it's grace olivia which does not roll off the tongue in the same way :/ but i do like both of them. i definitely do not introduce myself as "grace olivia" because i would feel cringe doing that because it SOUNDS like i'm telling people my middle name for no reason! so i treat olivia like a middle name irl. my middle name is danielle and i have two last names which is normal. having a lot of names is funny though. it is inconvenient on forms and sometimes annoying to explain but still funny. do you have a long name? do you have six names? seven? that would be awesome.

I have a very traditional biblical name as some of you may know and i was sad that it was entirely un-nick-namable but I think it suits me and my personality now. My parents almost named me Kirsten and I sometimes wonder if I would be different if they had gone with that… and I LOVE when little old southern ladies say my first name and middle name together especially if they preface it with a Miss.
my last name is actually too unique, hyphenated, and ridiculously long and was embarrassing to me for most of my life but I’ve found peace with that too and wouldn’t change it for anything 🫶

like many Latine ppl, my full name consists of a myriad of last names from literally every blood-related family member that has ever graced this planet. although they're beautiful-sounding and i adore them all, they are quite frankly too long to use for username purposes. on top of that, it just doesn't feel right to butcher/frankenstein parts of them just to create a condensed username (perhaps i’ll change my mind on that aspect someday, but for now, i’m pretty steadfast about it).
alas, verygoodvalentina was born... it uses my first name, it's easy to remember, feels like a pseudo-alliteration with the two Vs sandwiching the "good" together and can be said like a sentence, "very good, Valentina!" or as an entity, verygoodvalentina™️ (VGV)

my first + middle name is: arabella emerson (no last name hehehe you're not gonna catch me) when i was younger i used to change my name almost every summer. i went to a super woke summer camp that would let you put whatever you wanted on your name tag and so i was bella and onyx and oliver on an on and off roation for about 6 years. eventually i stopped because my mom found out and freaked out about me being trans, so i went back to being arabella for a while, and then in high school people started calling me by my last name (which was cool, but you're still not gonna get me) and then that evolved into me going by emerson, not for any particualr reason, it just sort of happened. my mom had less of an issue with that so i just stuck with it and it's what everyone calls me now. kind of rock with it also because people assume i'm a women less so i'm #showingthepatriarchywhoseboss but TBH with changing my name, you should just do it. like people will attach whatever ideas to your name change even if it's just from kevin--> kev or as jurrastic from kevin-->gabriel so you should just live your life. names are names, i understand the signifgances and nunaces to having certain names, and i would never deny anyone those, but when you change your name, you're not getting rid of the old one, you're just evolving. IMPORTANT: in changing your name, you are not wiping your past you're creating a new future. is that corny?

you probably know them already. i am from the home of Minutemen, beautiful sunny San Pedro, the port of LA and let me tell you... pedro does extreme pride really well and that is especially true when it comes to this band (and in this case the pride is absolutely warranted). george hurley built a fence behind my driveway for us. i played bass in his drum room when i was like 11 lol. yes i am flexing these things because it's awesome and he's an extremely kind man. mike watt is around town sometimes and he comes off as very unapproachable and cranky which is also awesome and funny. ultimately he is also nice though.
there are still lots of blue-collar middle-aged (to quite old) people in rock bands in pedro going really hard. one of the biggest blessings of my life is having grown up here (despite the town's issues and generally freakish nature) because of the music scene and support from older musicians. minutemen are our (humble) stars, and i'm grateful for them, and i'm grateful for the many rock/punk/jazz/blues/noise/freaky sound art people in my town.
"A Wailing Of A Town: An Oral History of Early San Pedro Punk And More 1977-1985" is a great book, i was super pumped when it came out and everyone who was around at the time had things to say about it/things to expand on.
i have love for this place but i still am dying to move away. btw. don't get it twisted... i am getting out of town or i die.
