when i was first cooking up ideas for pi.fyi i talked to publicannouncement who told me to try sketching on huge 11x17 paper and i never looked back
f*ck figma (kidding...we love figma here) but quickly sketching rough ideas on this notepad with a blue sharpie is how i test out new layouts, concepts, etc. Gamechanger!
and even if you don't need to draw large scale mock-ups it's great to write a huge to-do list on lol

Paper and Sharpies, loose sketches are my first step when thinking though things. Sca all of them, fun to look at over the years as the site matures. I bound mine in a book.

I'm a fan of the big memo pads — https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074TVB6GY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1

Hmm, yes, will pick up. Developing a massive app right now, using Illustrator for ideas and porting to Figma. I got a little whiteboard for some quick hands-on action but I love the fine grid on that! 👀 ◻◻️◻️ ◻️✏️◻️ ◻️◻️◻️

Recently I bought a little pack of palm-sized notebooks in an effort to be more “analog” with my notes and thoughts (pretentious, I know). With a world of increasing options, I’ve found I am all over the place with my notes. I have some in Apple Notes, some in Notion, a few in other random apps I’ve accumulated over the years, and I’m sure others in places I forget. For the past month I’ve used these handwritten notebooks and it’s like something finally clicked for me. Just a quick jot away, I’ve got a pad filled and another started, with drawings/diagrams of ideas for projects and little notes I want to be able to look back on. Just make sure if you do this you pair those notebooks with some muji pens or your preferred writing tool for the ultimate experience.

i like to keep a small notebook handy, or even just my notes app (but i think it’s better to do this handwritten) and whenever i have an idea i just jot it down really quickly. it takes some of the pressure off to have my ideas on paper and from there it’s easier to do some brainstorming and see where it leads you. this is a pretty simple idea but i’ve found it really helps me whenever i feel stressed out abt starting a creative project. hope this helped!

just the most fun to make and really does help you figure out the nuts and bolts of an idea

tomorrow PI.FYI launches to the public
this project is the result of thousands of hours spent coding everything from scratch after I got laid off six months ago
no thiel-bucks or weirdo outsider money, just a pure desire to make something fun and true to Perfectly Imperfect’s day one goal of helping people find new things from real human beings, not algorithms or AI
a pure labor of love that I’ve been quietly plotting for two years and it’s completely self-funded from my (rapidly) dwindling savings account
so thank you for coming along for this weird ride 🫶 let's see where it goes
