Seeing the eclipse if you can
The fact that the moon appears to perfectly cover the sun during an eclipse is an insane coincidence of time and space that doesn't happen on other planets. If you live within driving distance of the path of totality you can see it happen on April 8! It's the last American solar eclipse until 2044! Just be prepared for horrendous traffic.

Real talk on both accounts. I am fortunate to live in the path of totality for this one. Local authorities are trying to get people ready for the amount of traffic and whatnot. I saw the last total eclipse in Bowling Green KY and it is FUCKING MAGICAL ✨ for real. Then the trip that takes two hours to get home took eight. Worth it though. Its so cool.

taking off work for the solar eclipse
im only ~2 hours from totality so like of course i cannot miss this celestial opportunity!!! currently making plans and requesting time off. if ur even like 5 hours away or less i think u should go all the way to get to totality. it is so special. dont forget to account for traffic when estimating travel plans

even when you think it’s not worth it, because you saw one a few years ago anyway… you still should watch the eclipse because space is always cool but more importantly how neat is it to share in the collective awe of something beautiful

This NYT piece from last year explains why it’s actually a Good and Normal thing to do. I used to have like six in the bed at once but recently culled my crew to two practical ones: this sleeping Charmander plushie, which I hug while I’m in the fetal position, and an Ugly Doll I put between my knees because it’s nice and flat. They're so comfy and I fall asleep in 30 seconds like this (also they’re cute and I love them)

WE are the universe experiencing Itself
Consciousness can be agonizing but it's also a miracle. Sometimes the pressure to make the most of it feels debilitating. There's so much I want to do, and I have to remind that the stuff that really gives life meaning isn't hard to access. I think making a true effort to know yourself, make connections with the people around you, and observe and engage with the world are more than enough reasons to justify your existence.
