maxwelljames neither have I 😶‍🌫️😶‍🌫️😶‍🌫️ but I heard in a podcast that it’s based on the traditional Japanese idea that all objects have souks, thus you should take very good care of them, and you should be very thoughtful about getting rid of them. Soooo, I think that feels very linked to sentimentality over aesthetics!

i used to be very minimalistic in my teen years, everything had to have it's own place and be perfectly organized or i'd start twitching (something undiagnosed, probably. it's fine.) somewhere along the way i started to get very sentimental with my things, i think it came with the thrifting addiction. realizing how much value all those things have and how many lives they lived before i found them is just really interesting to think about. the things you keep says a lot about you, and what better form of expression than filling my space with things that i love and feel connected with? colors and textures that bring me peace? the world is a disaster so keeping small things to spark joy is crucial!!!

Holding sentimental value to anything you touch is a gift. Maybe not the most practical, but a gift nonetheless.

i love stuff perhaps a little too much and it’s impossible for me to pick a single trinket but in general i think the stuff that i own that’s the most important to me at this point is stuff i’ve gotten secondhand at estate sales vs just bought new. assigning a personal history to something older than myself, keeping things that meant something to someone else meaningful for a little while longer.
started going estate sale-ing summer after i finished college with a great friend i made at school, which feels like the start of becoming the me i am now and collecting stuff that i really intentionally wanna try and keep for the rest of my life. pictured below is a grail from my first ever estate sale: a yearbook from my school 100 years before my graduation. it’s the first thing you see when you walk into my apartment, the first place i lived in alone long-term - kinda wanna keep it by every entryway as i move apartments.

We might be in the golden era of running shoes. Actually we might be on the decline from it on second thought.
But the running shoes of today are not the running shoes of 10 years ago. And they’re not the running shoes of four years ago.
Let me know if you need help picking a running shoe!
Current rotation:
• New Balance 1080 v13 for slower longer runs
• ASICS Novablast 4 for peppier tempo runs
• HOKA Mafate Speed 4 for trail
• New Balance Rebel v4 for something in between
